Chandor Alabaster Table Lamp - Brass with White Shade

The Chandor is a 700mm-tall table lamp built around a rectangular column of natural Spanish alabaster, framed front and back with polished brass plates and set on a stepped brass plinth. A rectangular white PVC shade sits above the column on a brass stem and finial, taking a single E27 bulb (sold separately). The footprint measures 400mm x 230mm, giving the lamp a substantial presence on a console or sideboard.

The Chandor suits hallway consoles, living room sideboards and bedroom dressing tables where a tall pair of lamps frames a mirror or artwork. The 700mm height places the shade at standing eye-level on a 750mm console, casting light downward onto the surface for keys, photographs or a vase. Used as a bedside lamp it works best on taller bedside cabinets, around 600mm or higher, so the shade clears the mattress line.

Each alabaster column shows different mineral veining and grey-cream tonal movement depending on the section of stone it was cut from, so paired Chandor lamps will share a family resemblance rather than being identical. The polished brass frame and plinth contrast against the matt softness of the stone, and the brass picks up reflected light from the warm-toned shade. The rectangular shade and rectilinear base give the lamp a defined architectural geometry rather than a turned or rounded silhouette.

What bulb does the Chandor take?

The lamp uses a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. A warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K pairs well with the white shade and the warm tone of the alabaster and brass.

Does the alabaster vary between pieces?

Yes. Each column is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so veining, tonal variation and translucency differ between individual lamps. Paired Chandor lamps will share a family resemblance rather than being identical, which is a feature of the natural stone.

Is the lamp suitable as a bedside light?

It can be, but the 700mm height and 400mm x 230mm footprint suit taller bedside cabinets of around 600mm or higher and surfaces wider than 450mm. On standard low bedside tables the lamp may dominate the space; it's better suited to consoles, sideboards and dressing tables.

How is the alabaster cleaned?

Alabaster is porous and softer than marble. Wipe gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. For more stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid soaking the stone and do not use household sprays, polishes or chemical cleaners.
