Noctelis Alabaster Dome Table Lamp - Soft White & Black

The Noctelis is a 470mm alabaster table lamp built around a 300mm hemispherical dome of natural Spanish alabaster, set on a solid black cylindrical column that rises from a circular black base. The dome is held in place by four small brass brackets at its lower edge, and the lamp accepts a single E27 bulb (sold separately) housed within the dome itself.

Designed for console tables, sideboards and bedside use, the Noctelis casts most of its light downward through the alabaster shade, producing a soft pool of ambient light rather than directed task light. The compact 300mm diameter footprint and 470mm height suit it to surfaces where height is constrained, including narrow hallway consoles, bedroom nightstands and reading-side tables next to a sofa or armchair.

The alabaster dome shows natural mineral veining and subtle tonal variation across its surface, so no two shades are identical. Each piece carries different patterns of grey and amber threading running through the soft white stone, which become more pronounced when the lamp is lit and the alabaster reveals its translucency. The black metal column and base are finished in a low-sheen dark bronze tone, with the brass shade brackets providing a small warm accent at the join between stone and metal.

What bulb does the Noctelis take?

The lamp uses a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. A warm-white LED between 6-8W and 2700K-3000K pairs well with alabaster, as the warmer colour temperature complements the natural tone of the stone and avoids a clinical appearance when lit.

Is the alabaster dome consistent between pieces?

No. Each dome is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the veining, density and tonal variation differ between individual lamps. The grey and amber threading is a feature of the natural material rather than a defect, and becomes more visible when the lamp is illuminated.

Where does the lamp work best?

At 470mm tall and 300mm wide, the Noctelis suits bedside tables, hallway consoles, sideboards and side tables next to a sofa or armchair. Light is directed downward through the dome, making it more suited to ambient and accent lighting than directed reading light.

How is the alabaster cleaned?

Alabaster is porous and softer than marble. Wipe the dome with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid water, household sprays, polishes and chemical cleaners, as these can mark or dull the stone. The black metal column can be wiped with a barely-damp cloth.
